The Division of Elections is processing the Florida sports betting initiative. Once approved, it would lead to a petition drive for a constitutional amendment to allow sports wagering in the state.

The Sports and Event Betting ballot review is currently in the review and approval phase. However, after the deputy director of external affairs released the statement, the Division of Elections approved the proposed constitutional amendment.

Betting software providers have been following developments of the sports betting industry in the US. Online gambling solutions companies, FanDuel and DraftKings, support the campaign to legalize sports wagering in Florida.

According to the best sports betting software, the proposed sports betting law would tax sports gambling. The tax revenue would provide additional funds to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.

The Florida Education Champions lobbied for the proposed amendment to the state constitution. The political action committee officers include David Johnson, a political consultant, Rick Heitmeyer, Abby Dupree, and Stephanie Zottoli. Also, the last three are partners at the Carroll and Company CPAs based in Tallahassee.

The PAC’s spokesperson told reporters that FanDuel and DraftKings are the driving forces behind the initiative. They support the call to amend the constitution.

After the Division of Elections approved the initiative, the next step is to collect petition signatures. If they collect the required number of signatures, the measure would be part of the general ballot during the 2022 elections.

The state recently ratified the gambling compact with the Seminole Tribe. It gives the tribe exclusive rights to online sports betting.
